Youth Fastpitch Age Level Classification

BFA is a member of the Big West of the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League, which adheres to the rules of the USA Softball governing body.   Softball Age Levels comply with the USA Softball governing body rules.

A Players age as of December 31 determines the age level at which the player will play the following year.  Example if a player is 11 or 12 on December 31 2017 the player will play at the 12U age level for the Summer 2018 season.

8U's (age 8 or less on December 31 / Minimum age: In Kindergarten)
10U's (age 10 or less on December 31)
12U's (age 12 or less on December 31)
14U's (age 14 or less on December 31)
16U's (age 16 or less on December 31)

FALL BALL -
Players will  play at the age level they would play at the following summer.   BFA will present any requests not to move up to the next age level for fall season to the Minnesota Softball league to confirm approval.


2018 BFA Financial Assistance Policy

Bloomington Fastpitch Association (BFA) seeks to provide recreation programs for traveling fastpitch sports participants. This policy and procedure establishes a program which may provide financial assistance on a need-basis for up to 50% of the player registration fees.

Team Selection Process

  • 8U players will be divided equally into teams after the first "joint" practice occurs where the players can be evaluated. 
  • 10U level will use the player evaluations to establish a 2nd year only upper level team and then all remaining players will be equally divided after that. 
  • 12U level will use the player evaluations to establish a "top tier" team and than all remaining players will be equally divided after that.
  • 14U and 16U: If we have enough players for more than one team these levels, they will be divided equally into teams after the first "joint" practice occurs where the players can be evaluated.

Choosing A Bat

Your bat must have either the ASA 2000 or ASA 2004 Certification stamp put on by the manufacturer to be legal.
