Evaluation Procedures
Each player is to be evaluated to determine their skill and ability level. BFA’s goal is to evaluate each player impartially and objectively so that they may be placed on a team where they can be most successful, who in turn play against teams with comparable skill levels.

Players that wish to pitch or catch must indicate so at the time of registration, prior to tryouts. These players will be evaluated and rated on these skills in addition to the regular tryout.

Format and Process
The tryout drills are predetermined drills, commonly used in the free winter clinics, and in practices. The drills are intended to be familiar to the players and demonstrate specific skills for the evaluators. Skills to be covered include throwing, catching, infield, outfield and hitting. Evaluators will rate the various skills on a predetermined point scale.

8U teams will be evenly balanced. 10U-14U will be skill split.

Post Evaluation
If a player or parent has a grievance after the teams have been selected, a 48 hour “cooling off” period applies. During this period, neither the player nor the parent may contact the coaching staff or board members in regard to team selection. Players are expected to be at practice for the team they were placed on. After this period, parents may request an in person meeting to receive feedback from the tryout. This meeting will consist of the player, parents, head coach and one or more of the board members. This review will not include any comparisons between any specific players, but will only include discussion involving the performance of the specific player requesting the feedback.
