League Details

BFA's Summer Traveling teams play through the Minnesota Softball Big West League, an affiliate of USA Softball, the National Governing Body of softball. Players starting at 8U through 18U are supported through this league.


Rules

Bloomington Fastpitch Association, Big West Fastpitch League, and  Minnesota Softball all follow USA Softball rules.

Player Eligibility

All BFA players must live in, or attend school within, the Bloomington city borders.

This is our "draw area" as defined by the MN Softball By-Laws

USA and MN Softball strictly establish age division requirements. 


Team Formation

Evaluations will take place, and teams will be formed based on skills assessed. We make every attempt to place all registered players on a team but in the case we do not have enough pitchers, catchers, or coaches refunds will be issued.


Expected Team Days

8U

  • Mondays & Wednesdays
  • Games on Wednesdays starting in May
  • Typically, three weekend tournaments

10U

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays
  • One additional practice night per week starting in June
  • Games on Thursdays through May
  • Games Tuesdays and Thursdays in June
  • Typically, five weekend tournaments

12U

  • Mondays & Wednesdays
  • One additional practice night per week starting in May
  • Games on Mondays and Wednesdays May - June
  • Typically, five weekend tournaments

14U

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays
  • One additional practice night per week starting in May
  • Games on Tuesdays and Thursdays May - June
  • Typically, five weekend tournaments

Coaching

Each team will consist of one head coach and no more than two named assistant coaches.

Coaches will receive all the necessary training, support, and equipment for a successful season.

All head coaches will be reimbursed one child's registration fee, and two assistant coaches per team will be reimbursed half of one child's registration fee at the end of the season.

The head coach will receive 12 hours and assistant coaches will receive 6 hours of volunteer credits. All other families must fulfill their requirements through Board of Directors or committee participation or at our hosted tournaments (BASH or 10U MONSTA).


Equipment

BFA will provide the following for the players:

  • Bats
    (players are welcome to use their own bats as well)
  • Catching gear for 8U and 10U
    (individual sets are available for check out for 12U and 14U players)

Parents  are required to provide the following for their players:

  • Glove
  • Fielding masks
  • Batting helmet
  • Cleats
  • Water bottle
  • Uniform
    (ordered through BFA's chosen vendor)

Adult Expectations

BFA is entirely volunteer-operated. The organization cannot function without support from all families. Please look for ways to help your player's team in whatever way is best for you - team manager, keeping score, helping with practice, doing field prep/clean up, etc.
