MIKE ROWEKAMP SCHOLARSHIP

Mike, Coaching for BFA in 1996

A generous financial donation from the Rowekamp family in honor of Mike Rowekamp, has allowed BFA to continue offering financial assistance to qualifying players in 2021. Mike was instrumental in starting the first 10U fastpitch league in Minnesota and coached in Bloomington for 25 years. He not only taught his players the fundamentals of playing ball, but also that hard work has reward, that winning is fun but it's important to win graciously, and that something is learned from losing as well.

Bloomington Fastpitch Association (BFA) seeks to provide recreation programs for traveling fastpitch sports participants. This policy and procedure establishes a program which may provide financial assistance on a need-basis for up to 50% of the player registration fees.

Youth Fastpitch Age Level Classification

BFA is a member of the Big West of the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League, which adheres to the rules of the USA Softball governing body. Softball age levels comply with the USA Softball governing body rules.

NEW: Starting with this fall season, USA Softball Age Rule Changes are in effect. This means the age of the player on August 31, 2023, is their playing age for the 2024 season.

This means if your child has a September, October, November or December birthdate, they can get an extra year at their current age level. MN Softball has a great age calculator to double check which level your athlete should be playing this coming year. Please contact Player Development with any questions.

FALL BALL - Players will  play at the age level they would play at the following summer.  No exceptions to "play down" will be allowed.

Approved Bats

  • The only bats allowed for use are ASA or USA Softball stamped bats. These bats are also approved by MSHSL and NCAA.
  • The bats you are using must have one of the stamps below.
  • Umpires are being instructed to check bats for these stamps.
